Studio Pics

Some of you may enjoy viewing a few photos of where I create the music and sounds for Backflip Studios. I am only showing a small sampling of my instruments as they would quickly fill it up and I prefer to keep most of them in cases.

Aubrey Hodges – A Brian Moore Guitars Artist

For many years now I have been using a Brian Moore DC/1 Custom Guitar. As of today I am formally representing the brand as an artist. I can’t begin to tell you how amazing they are and how satisfied I am every time I strap the thing on! I owe much of my sound to these instruments and I can recommend their guitars and service/custom work with absolute confidence. Check them out and make sure to tell them I sent you when you treat yourself to one of them.

Doom Playstation Arch Vile sounds!

At last, the sounds intended for the Doom Playstation Arch Vile are released for you enjoyment! As you may know, the Arch Vile was cut from the game due to performance and memory restraint issues. However, before that decision was made I had already recorded a first pass set of voiceovers that were ready to get implemented once he was working correctly. Sadly, he was removed from the game and the sounds never did get used. After years of getting questions and requests from fans about these sounds I finally found the time to dig through all my old archives in search of them. I found the original recordings and went ahead and edited them and applied some mild effects based on the approach I used with most of the other monster sounds...

The Sierra Series Soundtracks coming soon!

I am pleased to announce that I will be releasing 4 new soundtracks of my old Sierra titles in the coming year!

Volume 1 will be the Quest for Glory: Shadows of Darkness Soundtrack (QFG4). This album will not only contain all of the original Sound Canvas (ultra high quality) and Sound Blaster/Adlib (FM synth) versions of every song in the game, but also over 20 new arrangements of the songs using modern samples and real instruments.

Volume 2 will be Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist.

Volume 3 will be Shadow of Yserbius.

Volume 4 will be Robin Hood: Conquests of the Longbow.

I hope to be completed with Volume 1 at the end of July this year. I’ll update this post if that changes.

The Impact of Music

Over the last few years I have received a ton of fan mail regarding much of my old work. I admit at first I was perplexed as to the reason so many fans seemed to admire my ancient compositions on the old Sierra games and the DOOM and Quake games over my more recent (and far superior quality) work.

I have since thought about this often and I think I am beginning to understand the power of nostalgia and memory recall. Many of the letters reference very specific memories of spending time with friends or loved ones, going through a tough time, or needing to escape the pressure that life can sometimes bring to bear on us...
